Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz (225 g) sliced turkey breast (deli-style or leftover)
  • 4 slices of sourdough bread (or your preferred bread)
  • 4 slices of sharp cheddar cheese (about 4 oz or 115 g total)
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter (½ stick, 57 g), softened
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

  1. Begin by preparing the garlic butter. In a small bowl, mix the softened butter with the minced garlic, oregano, and garlic powder. Season with salt and pepper. This should take about 3-5 minutes.
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Let it preheat for about 2 minutes until hot but not smoking.
  3. Generously spread one side of each slice of bread with the garlic butter, ensuring even distribution for uniform browning.
  4. Place two slices of bread, butter-side down, in the heated skillet. Cook for about 1-2 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
  5. On each slice of bread, add two slices of cheddar cheese and the sliced turkey breast. Make sure to distribute the ingredients evenly for full flavor in every bite.
  6. Top the sandwiches with the remaining cheese slices and the unbuttered slices of bread, which should also be spread with garlic butter. Press the sandwiches lightly together.
  7. Carefully flip the sandwiches and cook the other side for another 2-3 minutes until the cheese is melted and the bread is golden brown.
  8. Remove the sandwiches from the skillet and let them cool slightly. Cut them diagonally in half and serve garnished with fresh parsley if desired.

Nutrition

Keywords: Avoid overcrowding the skillet; cook the sandwiches individually or in pairs for even browning. For the best texture, use fresh, thick-sliced sourdough bread. Experiment with different cheeses for new flavors.
